New Pluralists
New Pluralists
We're building a culture of respect and belonging for all. Since 2021, we've invested $33 million in people and groups bringing pluralism to life across America.
Pluralism is a promise and a practice—a choice about who we want to become.

Learn More →What We Mean by Pluralism
Pluralism is more than just tolerance. It's a way of being and acting in community together. It means living alongside people with different backgrounds and beliefs—and seeing those differences as opportunities for learning, debate, and collaboration.
At its heart, pluralism is about:
- Recognizing the dignity and worth of every person
- Building trust and understanding across lines of difference
- Listening from a place of mutual respect
- Working together to solve shared problems
- Creating communities where everyone feels they belong
America faces huge challenges—division, distrust, and disconnection. Powerful forces work to pit us against each other. But Americans want another way forward. There are people in communities across the country showing us how to practice pluralism every day.
We invest in their courage, creativity, and leadership.
Our Unique Approach
We are a funder collaborative—not a single foundation, but a partnership between foundations with different viewpoints working together across ideological lines.
🤝 Cross-Ideological
We bring together funders from across the political spectrum who practice what we preach.
👥 Field-Builder Partnership
We co-create strategy with practitioners doing the work—not top-down decision making.
🌱 Local Solutions
We fund community-led work that matches local needs and cultures.
🔬 Research-Driven
We invest in rigorous study to understand what works and why.
Our investment strategy focuses on three areas:
- $11M+ in locally led solutions supporting community organizations transforming division into belonging
- $15M+ in field-wide learning funding research, collaboration, and knowledge-building
- $5M+ in targeted strategies including storytelling and narrative change
We work as a pooled fund, bringing resources together so we can move faster and go farther than any single funder could alone.
Impact That Matters
What we've accomplished in three years:
- Built shared understanding of pluralism rooted in research and practice
- Supported field leaders to test and scale their approaches
- Created a theory of change for the pluralism field to advance together
- Distributed $10M through "Healing Starts Here" to 32 community organizations
- Learned how to "walk the talk" as diverse funders making decisions together
Our 2030 Strategy focuses on helping promising practices break through from small successes to lasting, large-scale change. We're moving from exploration to action—from learning what works to making it work everywhere.
