THE WHY

Where do I start?
How do I get involved?
Who’s already doing the work?

We launched The Change Lab because we were looking for a way in—and so were our neighbors. We saw people who care deeply about their communities—parents, veterans, workers, students—feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure where to begin. The civic landscape felt noisy, divided, and hard to navigate.

So we rolled up our sleeves and started building.

The Change Lab is a place to plug in.

It’s a digital and real-world hub where people connect, learn what’s possible, and take meaningful action. We believe everyone—not just experts or elected officials—has the power to lead when given the right tools and support.

Our four core programs make it easy to get involved:

  • Civic Engagement Guide – A practical online hub for trusted news, local events, recommended reads, trainings, and organizations that are already making a difference.

  • Meetups – Monthly, politics-free gatherings that create space for real connection, honest conversation, and shared purpose.

  • Workshops – Hands-on sessions that help you build confidence, grow your skills, and turn your ideas into impact.

  • Volunteer Adventures – Local service projects that bring people together across backgrounds to do good—side by side.

We’re building stronger, more resilient communities—together.
Because when people feel seen, supported, and invited in—they show up.
And when they show up, everything changes.

We’re a brand new organization focused on connection, civic participation, and shared understanding. This is our temporary website while we build out a full online platform to better serve our community. In the meantime, we’d love your support and input as we grow. You can support our work or schedule a conversation to learn more and get involved.

Our Commitment to Social Connection

Extensive research confirms this. The 2025 Connection Opportunity report by More in Common found that over 70% of Houstonians want to connect across lines of difference but lack the opportunity. The Othering & Belonging Institute identifies social connection as essential for bridging divides and building inclusive societies. Pew Research reports growing social isolation across age groups and political affiliations, underlining the urgency of our work.

Every program we create is designed to reduce isolation, foster relationships, and build the human infrastructure that makes democracy work.

To strengthen civic life and community connection through nonpartisan tools, research, and programs that help people build trust, act together, and participate in public life.
