Charter for Compassion

Pathway: Community Voice & Power
Sub-pathway: Interfaith Collaboration
Engagement Level: Informed → Activated

Mission:

To support a global movement that fosters compassionate thinking and action, embedding the ethic of compassion into the fabric of everyday life through community-building, education, and sector-based collaboration.

Why It Matters:

In a polarized world, compassion offers a unifying force that transcends politics, religion, and nationality. The Charter mobilizes individuals and institutions to root their work in empathy, equity, and moral courage—key ingredients for inclusive and just societies.

Alignment with The Change Lab:

The Charter for Compassion embodies Change Lab values by nurturing local leadership, promoting civic imagination, and connecting grassroots efforts to global change. Its tools and programs model systems thinking, trauma-informed engagement, and belonging.

Key Programs:

  • Compassionate Communities Campaign: A framework for local governments, neighborhoods, and cities to formally adopt compassionate policies and practices.

  • Sector Toolkits: Guides for embedding compassion in education, business, healthcare, science, environment, justice, and more.

  • Global Compassion Circles: Peer-led learning and reflection spaces rooted in shared values.

  • Partner Network: Over 400 global partners collaborating on interfaith dialogue, social repair, and equity-focused projects.

Strategic Alignment:

  • Centers compassion as a systemic driver for justice and inclusion

  • Bridges difference across religious, political, and geographic lines

  • Cultivates narrative change through stories of empathy and shared humanity

  • Offers infrastructure for community engagement and social healing
